wrestling instructional videos
Question for martial artists of all types about pro wrestling.?

why is it that you can learn to become a martial artist or mma fighter with dozens of books, instructional videos, camps and schools all over the place but pro wrestling is such a hard kept secret?
ok , “acting” is no secret either and there are countless agencies and schools and self taught aids and books you can learn from.
You cant go out and learn how to be a pro wrestler uness you knwo some one or find one of the few schools in america that charge 1000 bucks a month
Can anyone anwser my question please?

For decades, pro wrestling was a very protected business. In his autobiography, Ric Flair says that he didn’t know the business was a “work” until he was about to walk through the curtain for his first match. Many pro wrestlers, until the mid-90′s or so, didn’t “smarten” up their families to the business, meaning they didn’t even tell their relatives it was fake/scripted. In an environment surrounded by secrecy, it’s going to be a while before there’s any instructional materials on the subject.

Some clips from as recently as the mid-1980′s:

Hulk Hogan legitimately chokes Richard Belzer unconscious-

“Doctor D” Dave Schultz slaps a reporter-

As well, I imagine that professionals are hesitant to put out any instructional material after the rash of backyard “wrestling” during the 90′s that led to injuries and deaths of children.

There’s also the fact that it’s a very niche subject. I’d say that probably 2/3 people have some experience with martial arts in the West, even if it’s just taking karate for the summer when they were a child, or doing some wrestling or boxing in school. People get into martial arts for a number of reasons: health, self defense, self confidence, “spiritual growth”, competition, and so on. With so many different motives, there’s a wide market, compared to pro wrestling. Pro wrestling is much more dangerous and much harder on the body, plus there’s not a lot of places to participate, especially compared with martial arts. There’s not a large market for instructional materials.
